Hold the Paraffin: We all love a good candle, but we actually know what's in them?

WHAT IS PARAFFIN WAX?

Paraffin wax is a white, odorless petroleum by- product created when crude oil is refined into gasoline. Crude Oil is a type of oil that is highly unsustainable due to being a non-renewable resource.

EFFECTS ON THE PLANT

Crude Oil is not replenished with the speed at which it is consumed. It has been the cause of drastic changes in climate, devastation and damage of natural environments and oil spills.

BURNING CANDLES WITH PARAFFIN WAX: EFFECTS ON CONSUMERS

Paraffin Wax creates highly toxic benzene and toulene when burned aka carcinogens. These toxins released from paraffin candles can also be found in diesel fumes (a mixture of gases, vapours, liquid aerosols and substances made of particles) which can be linked to asthma and lung cancer.

ALTERNATIVE

If burning candles is a part of your daily routine or self-care enjoyment, look for candles that are made with coconut, soy or beeswax. Ask the supplier, retailer or manufacturer if the wax used to create their products contain paraffin wax.

At the moment, there are no regulations or laws that require candle makers to disclose the ingredients used in their candles, so ask directly if possible.

WHERE DO WE STAND

Copper Wings Candle Co. uses coconut wax for its candles and has since establishing in 2019. We are a paraffin free, phthalate free, synthetic fragrance free company that uses pure essential oils only.

Candles can be fun and great gifts with am plethora of scents to choose from, however, as for me I always choose what's best for my environment.
